Music and book by Kate Soper, with additional texts by Plato, Theobaldus of Cambridge, Homer, Erasmus, Rimbaud de Vacqueiras, Tibullus, Edna St. Vincent-Millay, Thomas Campion, Michael Drayton, Iamblichus, Dante, John Milton and Sappho (translated by Anne Carson).

This work, premiered in 2014 by Morningside Opera and Dixon Place, features three sopranos as the sirens Peitho, Polyxo and Phaino, who both sing and play a prepared piano.

Staggerwing (Conductor)

A new opera by Lisa DeSpain and Rachel J. Peters that chronicles the journeys of pilots Blanche Noyes and Louise Thaden to and through the 1936 Bendix Trophy Air Race. Based on a true story.

Staggerwing is the inaugural production of the Vanderbilt Opera Theatre Lab, which is devoted to workshopping and performing new works.

VOT Lab will present a performance of this work-in-progress in the Instrumental Rehearsal Hall at the Blair School of Music on February 17, 2023, at 6 PM.
